
Suella Braverman Returns as Home Secretary
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has reappointed Suella Braverman as Home Secretary one week after resigning.
The return of Suella Braverman after breaching the rules, is likely to be an issue opposition parties including Labour will want to pursue.
Ms Braverman resigned last week over a technical breach of government rules.
The Home secretary is planning to ban anyone who enters the UK via irregular routes.
Ms Braverman wants to work closely with France to help cut channel crossings.
The new Home secretary is keen on drawing up a bill designed to create a “blanket ban” on anyone who enters the UK illegally, including by small boats, from claiming refuge.
Meanwhile, prime minister Rishi Sunak is reshuffling his cabinet after meeting King Charles III.
Jeremy Hunt will remain as chancellor.
Penny Mordaunt will stay as leader of the House of Commons.
Thérèse Coffey has been appointed as the new secretary of state for environment, food and rural affairs.
Mel Stride has been given the role as secretary for the department for work and pensions.
Gillian Keegan has been appointed secretary of state for education, Downing Street has confirmed.
