India Sets World Record of 314,835 New COVID-19 Cases In a Single Day - More than 1 Million People Infected in Just 4 Days & Hospitals Running out of Oxygen

India has recorded a record tally of new 314,835 COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours with hospitals running out of oxygen, medicine and beds.

Hospitals Are Running Out of Oxygen

India is struggling to cope with the rising numbers of COVID-19 cases due to the appearance of a new strain.

Deaths rose by 2,104 and around 314,835 new coronavirus cases have been confirmed in the last 24 hours.

Almost 1.6 million cases have been registered in a week, bringing the total cases to close to 16 million confirmed cases, second only to the United States.

Indian hospitals are running out of oxygen and bodies are stacking up in morgues.

The country is in the grip of a second deadly COVID-19 wave, overwhelming the health care system.

Many patients are still waiting for oxygen and crowds have formed outside hospitals, which are filled to capacity.

Several countries including the United States, France and the United Kingdom are bringing in travel restrictions to and from India amid fears over the rising cases.

The unprecedented spread of COVID-19 has overwhelmed hospitals.

Regional lockdowns have failed and now India is facing a devastating second wave with a severe shortage of beds, oxygen and medicines in major cities.

Oxygen supply has been a well known problem for hospitals despite calls for a national lockdown

Frontline doctors are struggling to save lives. Hospital beds are discharged and filled within minutes.

Everyday, there are people lined up in hospitals trying to get in but there isn't enough capacity.

Some patients sat with oxygen cylinders they had bought themselves out of desperation, while others died waiting in hospital car parks.

India has so far administered more than 130 million doses to health workers, frontline staff and those above the age of 45.

Victory against the virus was declared prematurely.

In less than 12 days, the COVID-19 positivity rate doubled to 17%, while in Delhi it hit 30%.

Hospitals across India have filled to capacity but this time it is predominately the young taking up the beds.

In Delhi, 65% of cases are under 40 years old.

During the next month, people above 18 will also be eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine. However a supply crunch could slow down the vaccine progress.

The Indian government is holding major conversations with Pfizer to supply COVID-19 vaccine at a lower price to save the country.

India has witnessed a rapid rise in COVID-19 case numbers over the past month driven by a Hindu festival attended by millions, lax safety protocols, and variants of the virus, including a new strain.

This is what happens when you have a central government that doesn't give a damn about its citizens.
