Tips from The 60 Second Self-Starter
At some point throughout your days and your weeks, procrastination is something with which you will grapple.
Don't beat yourself up over your immobility; it's part of the human experience. You can however, become a self starter.
To help you accelerate your progress, here are eight tips out of the 60 from my book The Sixty Second Self-starter:
* Realize that wanting to start on a task is different than deciding to.
* Associate the underlying meaning of your task to something larger.
* Recognize that unpleasant tasks don't tend to become pleasant as time passes.
* Forsake waiting until you are "in the mood." True professionals never do.
* Expect some level of breakdown or backsliding. Progress is not always even; two steps forward and one step back is more often the rule than the exception.
* Pick out someone who can serve as a trailblazer and help you get started.
* Have somebody waiting for your work.
* Be forthright with yourself and acknowledge when you're procrastinating, and you'll be that much closer to taking action.
