Exploring the Frontiers of AI with Vasudev Lal at Dell Tech World

In recent years, the field of artificial intelligence (AI) has witnessed a remarkable surge in advancements.

These advancements have ushered in a new era of innovation, with AI technologies permeating various aspects of our lives, from personal assistants on our smartphones to autonomous vehicles on our roads. AI is not only transforming industries and revolutionizing business operations but also fundamentally altering the way we interact with technology and perceive the world around us.

At Dell Tech World this week, I had the pleasure of interviewing Vasudev Lal, Principal AI Research Scientist at Intel Labs, to discuss the groundbreaking work his team is doing with Cognitive AI.

Intel Labs is at the forefront of AI innovation, and Vasudev’s team is focused on the development of multimodal cognitive systems. These systems leverage large self-supervised training models on language and vision data, pushing the boundaries of what AI can achieve.

One of the exciting developments from Intel Labs is the Gaudi platform. Named after the renowned architect, Gaudi is a dedicated AI training and inference accelerator designed to enhance deep learning. It’s fascinating to learn that the first Gaudi cluster, named Barcelona, drew inspiration from Gaudi’s Spanish architectural genius.

The Gaudi platform supports a wide array of AI libraries, including TensorFlow and PyTorch, thanks to Intel’s collaboration with ecosystem partners. Vasudev highlighted the ease of integrating existing workflows with Gaudi, where developers can make minimal code changes to adapt their projects to this powerful platform.

The latest iteration, Gaudi 3, brings new features and improvements over its predecessor, Gaudi 2, further enabling GenAI-led transformations across various industries, from financial services to manufacturing.

Vasudev shared a case study that showcased Gaudi’s role in accelerating AI-driven solutions, demonstrating its impact and the potential for future innovations. Watch this special edition of #CXOSpice here: YouTube Link

As AI continues to evolve, it’s clear that Intel Labs, under the guidance of visionaries like Vasudev Lal, is shaping the future of technology. It’s an exciting time to be part of this journey, and I can’t wait to see what Intel and their partners achieve next.
