What is Adaptability Really?
Adaptability is being flexible. Adaptability is accepting change. Adaptability is honing strategies. Most importantly, adaptability is evolving to accommodate new situations and challenges that will ensure the success of your business or organization.
Why is Adaptability Important in Leadership?
Change is constant. The workplace dynamic, business strategies, technology trends - everything grows and evolves into something better. Like it or not, the only way to survive as a leader and to face the complexity of change is to adapt and respond.
According to research conducted by CCL, one of the most frequently cited success factors for managers in North America was their ability to develop and adapt. The same research also stated that the inability to develop and adapt was one of the most frequently cited reasons for failure and derailment among managers in North America.
Becoming an Adaptive Leader - Here’s What You Must Do
Get curious, start asking questions, explore all possibilities, and wonder before you settle on a decision - small or large. Doing this will help you find an approach that is better than the way it’s always been done.
And do you know why that’s important? Getting too attached to a single plan or strategy is the biggest mistake you can ever make as a leader. Remember, there’s nothing permanent in running a business.
That means you’ve got to get flexible and keep adapting. To do that, you need to quit getting used to doing the same things (the same ways) over and over. Consider getting tech savvy. There are plenty of powerful tools and solutions out there that can help you adapt to a growing team and a growing business.
