World's Quickest IQ Test Only Has 3 Questions - But 83% of People Fail It
Think you are smart? Want to find out quickly? Then simply answer the World's shortest IQ test below.
The Cognitive Reflection Test was developed back in 2005 by MIT Professor Shane Frederick and it has recently been doing the rounds again on social media. Boffin Frederick had over 3,000 participants from a range of educational backgrounds complete the test including many from top U.S universities (e.g. Yale and Harvard) and even they struggled to get all 3 answers correct.
From 3000+ respondents a measly 17 percent managed to get all three correct on the test, (which from my rudimentary maths) means 83 percent of people failed. So do you think you are a smarty pants? Let's find out shall we?
A bit of advice, these might seem simple but that's part of the problem as you tend to think they are much easier than they first appear... anyhoo here goes:
1. A bat and a ball cost $1 .10 in total. The bat costs $1 more than the ball. How much does the ball cost?
2. If it takes five machines five minutes to make five widgets, how long would it take 100 machines to make 100 widgets?
3. In a lake, there is a patch of lily pads. Every day, the patch doubles in size. If it takes 48 days for the patch to cover the entire lake, how long would it take for the patch to cover half of the lake?
So let's take a look at the first question.
Did you say that the ball cost 10 cents?
Doh! If you did then you have already failed. If it makes you feel any better, so did I. And if it makes you feel even better still, I now know the answer and I still don't get it (sometimes I wonder how I even manage to tie my shoelaces).
So what about the other questions? (which I did get correct - yay).
Post your answers to all 3 questions below and I will let you know if you got them right...
